Kazakhstan’s new President Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev has suggested perpetuating the name of the country’s first President Nursulstan Nazarbayev in the name of the capital.
“We should perpetuate his great name. I believe we should perpetuate the name of our great contemporary, first president of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in the following way: our capital should be named after our president and be called Nursultan,” Tokayev said as he was sworn in as president on March 20.
