You're reading: Bolton visits Holocaust memorial before meeting with Lukashenko in Minsk

U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton has visited the Yama memorial dedicated to the Minsk Ghetto prisoners executed on March 2, 1942, the U.S. embassy in Belarus said on Twitter.

“Advisor Bolton paid respects to the victims of the tragedy and those Americans who survived or lost family during the Holocaust in Belarus,” the embassy said.

On March 2, 1942, the Nazis executed 5,000 prisoners of the Minsk ghetto. In total, up to 800,000 Jews were killed during the Holocaust in Belarus.

“The Yama Memorial remembers those victims. The USA and Belarus are forever united by a shared cultural heritage,” it said.

As reported earlier, Bolton arrived in Minsk on Aug. 29. He is currently meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and is additionally due to meet with Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei.
