Ukrainian combat units and local officials on March 2 announced limited advances against Russian Federation forces. The possibly first instance of Ukrainian Armed Forces recapturing territory of the Russia-backed self-proclaimed Luhansk people’s republic and Donetsk people’s republic was reported in the Donetsk outlying town of Horlivka, which elements of the 95th Assault Brigade took after close-in fighting.
If true this marked the first advance by Ukrainian Armed Forces beyond ceasefire lines established in the 2014 Minsk agreements.
In the north-eastern part of Sumy Region, a regional official said Ukrainian Armed Forces had retaken the important Kipti-Bachevsk section of the Kyiv-Moscow highway and Sumy is now under Ukrainian Armed Forces, the statement said.
In the nearby Akhtyrsk sector, the 93rd Mechanized Brigade was, per its Facebook page, pushing north. Some elements of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade had reached the RF border, capturing prisoners and abandoned equipment, the unconfirmed report said.
