You're reading: Zelensky signs law on provision of free consular services to socially vulnerable Ukrainians

President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law on amending some laws of Ukraine regarding the provision of benefits to certain categories of Ukrainian citizens who apply for consular actions (1666-IX), which the Verkhovna Rada adopted on July 15.

According to the presidential press service on August 3, the document is aimed at exempting representatives of the most vulnerable segments of population from paying consular fees in foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine.

“In particular, according to the law, persons affected by the Chornobyl disaster, assigned to categories I and II, people with disabilities of I and II groups, children with disabilities, orphans, and children deprived of parental care will not pay the consular fee for notarial actions abroad, as well as for registration of a passport for traveling abroad in foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine,” the report said.

It notes that the law comes into force the day after its publication and is enacted on Jan. 1, 2022.
