Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro in Japan have discussed the possibility of increasing trade turnover between the two countries and investment opportunities.
“Brazil is our main trading partner in Latin America. I welcome the expansion of the presence of Brazilian companies in Ukraine and Ukrainian companies in Brazil,” Zelensky said at the meeting, the Zelensky’s press service said.
He suggested resuming the work of the government commission to agree on all positions on this issue.
“We will have a lot of privatization. We are presenting many projects that show that it is profitable to invest in Ukraine. I believe that we really need to build powerful relations between Ukraine and Brazil,” Zelensky said.
The parties also discussed the prospects of cooperation in the space industry. Kyiv has proposed restarting a joint space project using the Alcantara space center in Brazil.
Zelensky thanked Brazil for supporting the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Bolsonaro invited Zelensky to Brazil and accepted his invitation to visit Ukraine in 2020.
An agreement on a long-term cooperation on the use of the Cyclone-4 launcher at the Alcantara launch center (Brazil), concluded by Brazil and Ukraine in 2003, was unilaterally denounced by the Brazilian side in the summer of 2015, with the decision to denounce the agreement entering into force in the summer of 2016.
