U.S. Special Representative on Ukraine Kurt Volker has said his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s assistant Vladislav Surkov was constructive.
In an interview published by the Kyiv-based Yevropeyska Pravda’s (European Truth), he said there is no agreement about the mandate for a possible United Nation’s peacekeeping mission to Donbas.
Surkov said: “I asked the Pentagon about what the size of such a mission should be… 30,000 is what the Pentagon said…”
Volker said the main objective now is agreeing with Russia.
“We had a rather constructive meeting in Dubai in January. During the previous meeting, the Russian side had insisted on a “defensive mission” along the disengagement line in Donbas, something that was unacceptable. But we moved on to Dubai. I await their proposals,” Volker was quoted as saying.
