Prosecutor General of Ukraine Iryna Venediktova has met with U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Ukraine Kristina Kvien, and discussed the Crimea Platform, the fight against corruption, as well as issues of cooperation in the development of the prosecutor’s office.

“Crimea is Ukraine and the whole world unites around it. We’ve discussed the Crimea Platform with the U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Ukraine Kristina Kvien,” Venediktova wrote on Facebook on August 13.

She noted that the support of international partners and their “proactive actions” for the de-occupation of the peninsula, as well as strong condemnation of human rights violations and war crimes there, are the key to returning the temporarily occupied territories and bringing those responsible to justice.

In addition, Venediktova said that during the meeting, the parties discussed issues of combating corruption in Ukraine.

“In this context, an independent and fair competition for the positions of the SAPO leadership is extremely important. The fight against corruption and its prevention is the task of all state institutions in Ukraine,” the Prosecutor General emphasized.

She added that the issues of cooperation on the development of the prosecutor’s office, in general, were also separately discussed.

“After the completion of the personnel reload reform, internal transformations are now underway: the area of expertise of prosecutors, the development of work standards, the digitalization and de-bureaucratization of the institution,” Venediktova summed up.

The Crimea Platform is a new consultative and coordinating format initiated by Ukraine with the aim of increasing the effectiveness of the international response to the ongoing occupation of Crimea, increasing international pressure on Russia, as well as achieving the main goal – the de-occupation of Crimea and the full restoration of Ukraine’s sovereignty over the peninsula.

Officially, the activities of the Crimea Platform will be based on the inaugural summit, which is scheduled to be held on August 23, 2021 in Kyiv. Thirty-eight states have already officially confirmed their participation in the summit.
