The United States will provide Ukraine with medical and humanitarian aid totaling $1.2 million to tackle the novel coronavirus, the Embassy of Ukraine in the U.S. said in a statement on March 27.

This assistance is aimed mainly to help prepare the laboratories for detecting the disease. The funds will also be used for properly addressing the virus spread and informing the population about the risks it creates.

Ukraine has 311 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of the morning of March 28, with eight deaths registered from the disease. U.S. has 104,256 cases, a higher number of cases than any other country. It has seen 1,704 deaths from the disease as of March 27.

The U.S. will start to allocate the assistance to selected foreign countries starting from April 3, according to the Ukrainian embassy.

“Ukraine highly appreciates the help of the U.S. authorities in health care and in coping with the pandemic,” the embassy said in a statement published on its Facebook page.

On March 27, the U.S. House of Representatives approved and President Donald Trump signed an unprecedented $2.2 trillion aid package to help American individuals and economy survive the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
