UNIAN: Ukraine’s Antonov to build up to 10 aircraft in five years

The world's largest aircraft, the Antonov 225, sits at Sri Lanka's second international airport in the southern town of Mattala on April 18, 2018, during a refuelling stop on its way to Karachi from Kuala Lumpur with a cargo of unspecified heavy machinery. The landing of the biggest aircraft attracted huge local media attention, partly because the Mattala airport, built and named after former president Mahinda Rajapakse, is probably the worlds emptiest international terminal, with just one scheduled flight a day operated by a budget carrier.

President of Ukrainian-based State Enterprise Antonov Oleksandr Donets says his enterprise plans to build from five to 10 aircraft in the next five years under a base-case scenario.

“The An-178 is my priority, because Antonov has always been famous for its transport aircraft. Then we will launch the manufacture of the An-158 aircraft. We would also like to continue work on unmanned aerial vehicles. However, much depends on a customer here,” he told the Ukrainian news outlet Liga.net on July 2.
