Ukrzaliznytsia jointly with the Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine and European funds is holding talks on the attraction of investment in the creation of a large logistics terminal in Kovel (Volyn region).

Acting CEO of Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Kravtsov said that in particular, it is planned to restore 65 km of European-gauge tracks and build a cargo terminal.

“Ukrzaliznytsia’s management is aware of the importance of developing international logistics for the company and for Ukraine in general. That is why we are moving in two ways: traditional – participate in international transport organizations – and develop additional tools that will create advantages in the international transportation market,” he said at the Ukrainian Infrastructure Forum 2018 in Kyiv on Thursday.

According to Kravtsov, now the possibility of creating terminal complexes is being worked out.

“One of the first promising places for this is the railway junction in Kovel, which is located 65 km far from the border with Poland. This is one of the most powerful railway junctions in Western Ukraine, the unique advantage of which is the current so-called narrow-gauge railway track linking Ukraine with the European Union. As the experience shows, there are all the prerequisites for creating a powerful logistics center. The great interest of investors in the project is also evidence of this,” Kravtsov said.

With regard to traditional tools for the development of the transit potential of Ukrzaliznytsia, Kravtsov said that the final procedure for the company’s entry into the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route is coming to an end in May.

“Finally, we will become a full participant in this route, which today is the main route from Asia to Europe for us. This will enable us to pursue a coordinated tariff policy at a high level, represent Ukraine in the international transport services market and offer convenient and competitive cargo delivery routes to customers,” the head of the company said.
