The Verkhovna Rada has ratified the extradition treaty between Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
Some 314 deputies voted for relevant bill No. 0030 at an extraordinary parliamentary meeting on April 30.
According to the agreement, extradition is applied to persons who committed crimes which, in accordance with the national legislation of the parties, are criminally punishable and for which a penalty of imprisonment for a term of at least one year or more severe punishment is provided. If a crime was committed outside the territory of the requesting party, extradition is carried out if the national legislation of the requested party provides for punishment for crimes committed outside its territory under the same circumstances.
The agreement also stipulates that the requested party has the right to refuse the requested assistance fully or partially if the fulfillment of the request poses a threat to the sovereignty, security, public order and other interests of the requested party, or is contrary to its legislation.
Ukraine and Kazakhstan signed an extradition treaty in Astana on Oct. 29, 2018.
