You're reading: Ukraine lifts ban on Russian men’s entry

The Ukrainian authorities have lifted the ban on male Russians’ entry to the country, though the border guard will continue to check Russian citizens closely.

“We have lifted the ban on Russian men’s entry [to our country]. But the State Border Service is continuing to undertake second-line control with respect to all Russian citizens, including questions about the purpose of their visit to Ukraine. After that, a decision is made as to whether or not they can be allowed to travel to our country,” Ukrainian State Border Service spokesman Oleh Slobodian told the online publication Gordon on Dec. 28.

Though martial law has been lifted, “the issue of providing border security is still relevant,” he said. “Therefore, we are continuing to protect the border tightly. Using the experience of martial law, we are maintaining increased control over the entry of foreigners to Ukraine. We are paying special attention to citizens from 70 countries on the high-migration-risk list traveling to Ukraine. Russia is at the top of this list,” Slobodian said.

In addition to foreign-travel passports, Russian citizens may be required to produce documents confirming the purpose of their trips to Ukraine, he said.
