Russian aggression will not stop Ukraine’s plans to create a naval grouping in the Sea of Azov, Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov has said.

“Russia’s aggression will not stop our plans to create a naval grouping in the Sea of Azov,” Turchynov told BBC News Ukraine, published on Dec. 19.

In his words, Ukraine has been working to reinforce its coast guard in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov area by employing new and modernized missile systems.

“This would enable us not only to efficiently oppose any landing operations but also destroy any vessel threatening our country at a distance of 300 kilometers, even at its base port,” Turchynov said.

“In case of a threat, it wouldn’t be a problem for us to destroy any ferry or bridge, including the one that has been advertised so much,” he said.

Turchynov stressed that Ukraine must show the whole world that it has not lost its position in the Sea of Azov, and that international law is in effect and Ukrainian and foreign ships can sail there.
