BRUSSELS – The European Union’s restrictive measures in respect of “actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine” imposed on individuals and legal entities have been extended under an EU Council Regulation by six months, the Official Journal of the European Union said in its publication.
“This Regulation shall enter into force on the day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union,” the document says.
The Council issued its decision under a written procedure, a source in EU institutions said to Interfax.
“The Council today decided that current sanctions in respect of actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine should be extended for a further six months until Sept. 15, 2020,” the EU Council said in a press release following the publication of the Council Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/398 of March 13, 2020.
The EU restrictive measures provide for freezing of funds, an EU entry ban and “a prohibition against making funds or other economic resources available to the listed persons”.
“The restrictive measures currently apply to 175 persons and 44 entities, following the removal of two deceased persons from the list,” it said.
A source in the EU told Interfax earlier on Friday that EU member states had adopted the decision.
