You're reading: Taylor calls for deploying peacekeepers in Donbas

U.S. Chargé d’Affaires a.i. in Ukraine William Taylor has said the introduction of international forces in Donbas could be an intermediate step between the withdrawal of Russian forces and the restoration of full control of Ukraine over the territories.

In an interview with the Kyiv-based Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (Mirror Weekly) newspaper appearing on Friday, Taylor said former U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker and other well-known people worked on how to achieve peace in Donbas, including the introduction of international forces. Taylor said this option is possible.

According to him, such a mission should be approved by the UN Security Council, and by its decision, countries that have the appropriate armed forces could collect them and send them to Donbas.

In the interview, Taylor said an armed conflict is continuing in the heart of Europe and that countries should be prepared to stop it.
