Sweden’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström has said it cannot be ruled out that several countries participating in the European Union’s Eastern Partnership will become EU members in 10 years.

Wallström made the remarks in Brussels on Tuesday during a high-level conference marking the 10-year anniversary of the program.

When asked if the Eastern Partnership marks its 20th anniversary in 10 years, she answered: “Maybe it’s just such a natural thing that some countries may even join the European Union.”

Currently six countries participate in the program: Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. Only three – Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova – have aspirations for joining the EU.
