Police have detained three people suspected of attempted murder on the Odesa activist Oleg Mykhailyk, chief prosecutor of Odesa region Oleh Zhuchenko has said.
“Two days after the attempted murder of Oleg Mikhailyk, three persons who are reasonably suspected of committing this particularly serious crime have been detained,” he said during a meeting of Odesa law-enforcement agencies on September 25 evening.
The prosecutor of Odessa region said notices of suspicion have been prepared for the suspects under Article 15 (attempted murder) and Part 2 of Article 115 (premeditated murder) of Ukraine’s Criminal Code.
“We will go to court to seek preventive custody of the suspects, with no alternative to bail,” Zhuchenko said.
Ukraine’s Internal Affairs Ministry later said all three suspects are foreign citizens.
As earlier reported, on September 22 unidentified persons attacked the activist, who heads “The Strength of People” organization in Odesa. Mykhailyk was hospitalized at the Yevreiska Hospital (Jewish Hospital) in Odesa.
Police opened a criminal case under Article 15 and Article 115 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (premeditated murder). The investigation does not name the main version of the crime. All versions are being considered – from domestic homicide to those that may be related to the public activities of Mykhailyk.
