Germany, the last EU state to have so far refused to support Russia’s disconnection from the SWIFT banking system, has agreed to impose this sanction, local Ukrainian media have reported citing Radio Liberty’s Rikard Jozwiak.
Jozwiak tweeted that Germany had agreed to “move on with respect to SWIFT.” He did not specify his sources. According to President Zelensky, speaking earlier on Feb. 26, only Hungary and Germany were among EU states opposed to disconnecting Russia from the SWIFT international payment system.
Later, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that in talks with his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban, the latter had assured that he supported tough sanctions, including the shutting down of SWIFT.
