You're reading: Rada Committee approves bill allowing to fine media for denying Russian aggression

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy has endorsed in a closed extraordinary meeting a bill providing fines for the media for publishing fake news and denying Russian aggression.

“On October 2, 2018, at its meeting, the committee supported the provisions of the draft law on amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Television and Radio Broadcasting” regarding enhancing information security and countering the aggressor state in the information sphere (No. 9068),” the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy said on October 2.

It is noted that the committee recommended that the Parliament, on the basis of the results of the first reading, adopt the bill as a basis.

As reported, a group of deputies prepared a bill, thanks to which the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting will be able to fine the media, denying Russian aggression and spreading “fake” news.
