Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and French President Emmanuel Macron have discussed the situation in Donbas and spoke in favor of intensifying the Normandy format negotiations at a meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Brussels.
“The presidents discussed the security situation in Donbas and agreed upon further steps to ensure the implementation of the Minsk Agreements and the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission. They saw fit to intensify the negotiating process in the Normandy format,” the Ukrainian presidential website said following the meeting between the two leaders.
Poroshenko said it was important to consolidate international efforts to increase pressure on the Russian Federation to have all Ukrainian prisoners, including Oleh Sentsov, Roman Sushchenko, and Volodymyr Balukh, freed without delay.
The Ukrainian president thanked the EU for its decision to extend the economic sanctions against Russia until January 31, 2019.
