Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has attended the first launches of US Javelin missile systems.
“Finally this day has come! Today, for the first time in Ukraine, the launch of Javelin missile complexes has taken place. Due to them, the combat capabilities of the Armed Forces have increased significantly,” he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday, May 22.
“This is very effective defensive weaponry, which is used in the event of Russian offensive on the positions of Ukrainian troops,” the Ukrainian president added.
Ukrainian Armed Forces units passed respective training to use this equipment, the presidential press service reported in turn.
According to Poroshenko, the US anti-tank complexes have shown extremely high efficiency. “You saw happy faces of soldiers. Today, their dream has come true. It is very symbolic, as it is a symbol of our cooperation with our American partners,” the press service quoted him as saying.
Poroshenko thanked US President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, US Secretary of Defense, US Secretary of State, US Senate and Congress, all the American partners for supporting Ukraine and approving the relevant decision to supply the Javelin anti-tank missile complexes to Ukraine.
