Ukraine’s population relies on priority steps by the country’s next president in ending hostilities in eastern Ukraine and strengthening the fight against corruption, according to a survey conducted by the Rating Sociological Group.
According to the results of the survey made public on Thursday, April 26, when asked “In which of these areas do you expect top-priority changes from the next president of Ukraine?” (no more than three answers), 67 percent expect the new head of state to make steps in ending hostilities in the east of the country and 57 percent hope for the strengthening of the fight against corruption. Some 38 percent of respondents hope for the revival of industry under the new president.
Ukrainians also expect better quality of medicine (22 percent) and social standards (21 percent), reduced influence of oligarchs on politics (16 percent), revival of the agricultural sector (11 percent), stimulation of business development (7 percent), and the strengthening of the country’s defense capability (6 percent).
Some 4 percent of respondents want reform of education and science, and 4 percent expect improvements in the international image of Ukraine.
The survey was conducted on April 10-22. A total of 6,000 respondents aged over 18 years were interviewed. The poll’s margin of error does not exceed 1.5 percent.
