Ukraine has filed a lawsuit to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) against Russia because of Moscow’s violating the rights of Ukrainian political prisoners, Deputy Minister of Justice, Commissioner for ECHR Affairs Ivan Lischyna has said.
“We’ve just filed a new interstate lawsuit with the European Court of Human Rights regarding the Ukrainian political prisoners of the Kremlin,” he said on Facebook.
He stressed that the statement including 130 pages and about 3,000 pages of additions describes violations regarding 71 political prisoners.
According to the official, the government of Ukraine claims systemic violations by the Russian Federation of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, namely under Article 3 (prohibition of torture and degrading behavior), Article 5 (personal freedom), Article 6 (fair trial), Article 8 (respect for personal and family life), Article 10 (freedom of expression), Article 13 (right to an effective remedy), Article 18 (limitation on use of restrictions on rights) in respect of its citizens, whom “Russia pursues for political reasons.”
“As for Klykh, Balukh, Kuk and Lytvynov, additional applications have been filed on Rule 39 on the provision of proper medical support and information on the state of health,” the report says.
