Ecology and Natural Resources Minister of Ukraine Ostap Semerak has said that the number of visitors of the exclusion zone of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) from 2015 to 2018 increased from 8,000 to 70,000 people, and half of them were foreigners.

“We see a significant increase in [the number of] visitors to the exclusion zone. If we compare 2015 with 2018, the flow of visitors increased from 8,000 to 70,000, which is an almost tenfold incrase,” he told reporters during a visit to the Chornobyl NPP last week.

According to the minister, half of the visitors were foreigners.

“It means that we are open and transparent. This is one of the guarantees that all the work that will be carried out here is being carried out under the scrutiny of the public, the state and our international partners,” Semerak said.
