The National Radio and TV Council (NRTC) of Ukraine has obliged Ukrainian broadcasters to cease retransmitting Russian TV Channel Dozhd (Rain) within a month for failing to recognize Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“In part, the channel’s broadcasts [portrayed] the administrative border between Ukraine’s Kherson region and Ukraine’s Autonomous Republic of Crimea as the border between Ukraine and the Russian Federation,” NRTC member Serhiy Kostynsky said during a council meeting.
Kostynsky said during the course of 2016 NRTC noted violations of Ukrainian law committed by the TV channel. Russian advertisements were broadcast, and journalists at the channel visited Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in early 2014.
As earlier reported, in December 2014, NRTC recognized Dozhd TV as complying with requisite demands of the European convention on cross-border television broadcasting and Ukrainian legislation.
NRTC has banned broadcasting of about 35 Russian TV stations for violating national security and violating advertising regulations.
