Officers from a special unit of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) have been assigned to guard Maria Maksakova, the widow of former Russian State Duma deputy Denis Voronenkov, who was assassinated in Kyiv on March 23, and former Duma deputy Ilya Ponomaryov.
Maksakova, a prominent opera singer, is also a former State Duma deputy.
“It’s already been decided today to place both Ponomaryov and Maria Maksakova under guard by a special SBU unit,” Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko said at a news briefing in Kyiv on March 23.
