You're reading: Kyiv reports one soldier wounded in Donbas amid five attacks on Ukrainian positions

Russian-led forces mounted five attacks on Ukrainian positions in Donbas, eastern Ukraine, in the past 24 hours, as a result of which one Ukrainian soldier was wounded in action, the press center of Ukraine’s Joint Forces Operation (JFO) has said.

“On December 25, the Russia-led forces violated the ceasefire five times. Two cases when weapons prohibited by the Minsk agreements were used were recorded. One soldier of the Joint Forces was wounded in the past 24 hours,” the JFO said in a morning update on Facebook on December 26.

Kremlin-backed separatists shelled JFO positions in several directions.

In particular, they open fire from 120-mm and 82-mm caliber mortars to attack Ukrainian positions near the village of Krymske in the Luhansk sector. The village Zolotoe-4 in Popasna district came under 82mm mortar fire.

The strongholds of the Ukrainian troops were also attacked by the enemy, using grenade launchers of various systems, large-caliber machine guns and small arms.

“[It happened] near the villages of Novotoshkivske and Stanytsia Luhanska in the Luhansk direction and near the town of Avdiyivka in the Donetsk sector,” the source said.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, one separatist was eliminated, another two were wounded.

“Since [Dec.26] midnight, separatists opened fire to attack Ukrainian troops’ positions, using grenade launchers of various systems and large-caliber machine guns near the village of Hnutove in the Mariupol sector,” the JFO HQ said.

No Ukrainian army casualties have been reported since the beginning of the day, it said.
