You're reading: Kyiv reports one soldier killed, four wounded in 80 separatist attacks over past day

Russia-backed separatists have opened fire on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces 80 times over the past 24 hours, killing one Ukrainian soldier and wounding four more, the press center for the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) has reported.

“The situation has escalated in the area of the Joint Forces Operation over the past 24 hours, on May 6. The hostilities continued along the entire contact line. Russia-led forces violated the Minsk agreements 80 times,” reads a report as of 07:00 a.m. on May 7, which was posted on the Facebook page of the JFO press center.

The press center noted that the most active military operations continued near the villages of Krymske, Novotoshkivske, Luhanske, Avdiyivka, Pisky, Troitske, and Shyrokyne. Russia-backed separatists opened fired 22 times from artillery and mortars and twice from a tank. Joint Forces units gave an adequate response and actively defended.

“Russia-led separatists continue to flagrantly violate the norms of international humanitarian law. Yesterday, on May 6, they fired twice from 152mm and 122mm cannons at the populated centers of Zaytseve and Mykilske, on the outskirts of the town of Horlivka, Donetsk region,” the report says.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers inflicted losses on the separatists, killing three and wounding five.
