The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and Human Rights Commissioner Liudmyla Denisova have asked the Russian side to provide information about the health of Ukrainian filmmaker Oleh Sentsov, who is incarcerated in Russia.

“The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine and the human rights commissioner have forwarded a request to the Russian Federation to immediately present official information detailing the state of Ukrainian citizen Oleh Sentsov’s health,” Verkhovna Rada Deputy Speaker Iryna Gerashchenko wrote on her Facebook page on Friday.

The Ukrainian authorities are also awaiting information about Sentsov from his lawyer, who “is the only person who has a chance to see Oleh, at least occasionally, and with whom the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry signed an official agreement on providing legal assistance to political prisoner Sentsov,” Gerashchenko wrote.

Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) Deputy Director Valery Maximenko said earlier on Friday that Sentsov had ended his hunger strike, which began in mid-May.

The FSIN’s press service said Sentsov gave his written consent to begin taking food.
