Dutch Ambassador Kees Klompenhouwer, who is completing his diplomatic mission in Ukraine, and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin have expressed their belief that those who are behind the downing of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 in the sky over Donbas in the summer of 2014 will be brought to justice.
“Empathy and solidarity of Ukrainian citizens with the Dutch people over the MH17 flight tragedy will remain forever in my heart,” Klompenhouwer said during a meeting with Klimkin in connection with the completion of his diplomatic mission in Ukraine, the Foreign Ministry’s press service said on August 16 morning.
The two officials expressed confidence that the Ukrainian-Dutch cooperation in the investigation of the crash and prosecuting those responsible for the tragedy are extremely important.
“During the conversation, they stated that the MH17 tragedy, as well as the Netherlands referendum on the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU became serious tests for the bilateral relations that preserved the spirit of friendship and mutual trust between the two peoples,” the report said.
The Dutch ambassador noted the progress of reforms in Ukraine, and also said that during his mission in the country he witnessed the strengthening and maturing of the Ukrainian nation.
