On Friday, August 6, at the Orpholo training ground near the city of Akhaltsikhe (Georgia), a demonstration military exercise “Agile Spirit-2021” was held, in which servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Georgia and the United States took part.

According to the press service of the Marine Corps Command of the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, during the exercises, in particular, measures were taken to repel the offensive of a mock enemy, in which soldiers of the 31st battalion of the third infantry brigade of the Georgian Defense Forces and airborne assault company of a separate battalion of the Ukrainian marines took part.

“According to the scenario of the exercises, the tasks of the Georgian and Ukrainian service members were to stop the enemy with the help of the attached fire means, and then to carry out a counterattack and block him in the mountainous terrain,” the command said.

At first the Dana self-propelled artillery mounts and RM-70 multiple launch rocket systems “worked out” for targets.

“After the artillery inflicted a fire defeat, the Georgian anti-tank crews destroyed the remnants of enemy armored vehicles using the Javelin Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM). Further, tank units started to work, which, with the support of the Georgian infantry and the Ukrainian marines, carried out counter-offensive actions,” the Ukrainian Armed Forces said.

They said the issues of medical evacuation were also worked out. Engineering, artillery and tank units were involved in the exercises, including Georgian armored vehicles, namely Didgori Warrior and Didgori Medevak.

“The aim of the exercise was to increase interoperability at the tactical level between Georgian and Ukrainian units, to enhance operational capabilities when planning and performing operations in a multinational environment,” the Ukrainian Armed Forces said.
