Italian TV presenter Flavio Insinna has apologized on air for calling Ukraine “Little Russia.”

The video was released by the Embassy of Ukraine in Italy on a page on Facebook.

“Dear Mr. Ambassador, I read your letter, which indicated the perception of the use of ‘Little Russia’ in relation to Ukraine as an insult. In this regard, I would like to emphasize that this was an unfortunate unintentional mistake. Ukraine is a beautiful country and I would like to convey greetings to the ambassador and all the wonderful people of Ukraine,” Insinna said after consultations with the embassy.

As reported, the host of the Italian show “L’Eredita” on the RAI channel on air January 26, 2020 said that “Small Russia is the alternative name of Ukraine.” In response, the Ukrainian Embassy in Italy issued an open letter explaining the origin of the name “Little Russia,” explaining why it is an insult to its use the term in relation to Ukraine, which is currently suffering from Russian aggression, and asked for action in connection with this incident.
