A criminal case has been opened in absentia against journalist of the Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR Gulsum Khalilova in the local administration of Russia’s FSB of Russia in occupied Crimea, Krym. Realii (Crimea. Realities) internet project reported.

According to the publication with reference to lawyer Emil Kurbedinov, the criminal case was launched under Part 2 of Article 208 of the Criminal Code – “Participation in an armed formation in the territory of a foreign state.”

“According to the case file, she joined the battalion of Noman Chelebidzhikhan in 2016. The pre-investigative inspection of the case was conducted for about a year. According to investigators, she helped the battalion with information support. The court chose the preventive measure in absentia in the form of detention on July 12,” said Kurbedinov.

According to him, at the request of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) investigation, the journalist was put on the international wanted list.

According to the ATR, the journalist herself learned about the case against her from social networks.

Gulsum Khalilova is the TV host of the Crimean Tatar television channel ATR. She left the annexed Crimea to mainland Ukraine four years ago.
