Tensions have been building since spring over the Russian military’s aggressive posture towards Ukraine in the Azov Sea, a body of water the two nations are supposed to share. Russia began stopping and detaining commercial ships trying to pass into the Black Sea from the Kerch Strait. On Nov. 25, Russia escalated by attacking three Ukrainian ships, reportedly injuring six Ukrainian Navy soldiers, and closing the Kerch Strait to commercial shipping.
