The European People’s Party (EPP) decided to join the Ukrainian European Solidarity party, leader of the European Solidarity, the fifth President of Ukraine (2014-2019) Petro Poroshenko has said.

European Solidarity Party officially joined the largest and most influential political family of united Europe – the European People’s Party. The EPP has just made a decision,” Poroshenko wrote on his Facebook page on Sept. 17.

According to him, this event is a recognition of the “success of five years of reforms carried out by our team” and the mandate of confidence in European Solidarity as a pro-European Ukrainian party. “We consider joining the EPP not only as our internal party event but as a signal of recognition of Ukraine’s European aspirations, its desire to join the EU and NATO. After all, only membership in these two unions guarantees us peace and security,” the politician said.

“The European People’s Party stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine in the struggle for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. The new format of cooperation with it gives us new opportunities to uphold the European and Euro-Atlantic choice of Ukraine,” Poroshenko said.
