The European Commission will issue more than 190 million euros to Ukraine to combat the spread of the coronavirus infection, according to a press release on the EU’s response to the coronavirus pandemic in the Eastern Partnership countries, posted on the European Commission’s website.
The document says Ukraine will get more than 190 million euros for urgent and short-term needs. “The example is as follows: the EU supports the creation of social sustainability by helping vulnerable people, switching to online education, combating disinformation and strengthening cultural diversity and online creativity,” the report says.
According to the press release, as part of its global response to the outbreak of coronavirus, the European Commission will mobilize an emergency support package for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. It is planned to allocate 80 million euros for urgent needs and up to 883 euros for medium- and long-term needs to support the social and economic recovery of the region.
Within the framework of emergency care, it is planned to allocate 30 million euros for the support of the healthcare sector throughout the program, which includes working with the World Health Organization for the supply of medical devices and personal equipment such as fans, laboratory kits, masks, safety glasses, gowns, and protective suits. It also provides training for medical and laboratory personnel, raising awareness in all six countries of the Eastern Partnership.
Some 11.3 million euros within emergency care is to be allocated to support the most vulnerable.
