The European Union has invited Ukraine to become a member of the EU Health Security Committee, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Matti Maasikas said.

“We have allocated 190 million euros in order to purchase all the relevant equipment for Ukrainian hospitals, we help those who work at the forefront of overcoming this challenge. We also invited Ukraine to become a member of the Health Security Committee. Thus, we understand that Ukraine is not alone in this struggle,” Maasikas said at All-Ukrainian Forum “Ukraine 30. Coronavirus: Challenges and Responses” on Feb. 8 in Kyiv.

He pointed out that the pandemic, on the contrary, has brought the EU and Ukraine closer together.

“Ukraine has been characterized by a very low level of vaccination in recent years. And this is also an indicator of a lack of trust, that is, in order to vaccinate a sufficient number of people in your country, the leaders of the country will have to work hard,” Maasikas said.

He said that the EU is ready to help Ukraine, since public health is one of the main areas within the framework of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.
