A special flight from Athens landed at Kyiv International Airport, which returned home Ukrainian firefighters who took part in containing massive forest wildfires in the Hellenic Republic, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine press service said on Monday evening.
“The State Emergency Service of Ukraine detachment of 100 people was greeted by Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky, Emergency Service’s Head Mykola Chechotkin, families of firefighters. The rescuers were congratulated on their return and thanked them for their work,” the agency said on its website.
The State Emergency Service’s head said that due to the rescuers, the image of Ukraine, as well as the emergency service, has increased significantly.
It is noted that from e the beginning of the work, the Emergency Service detachment has removed individual wildfires with an area of 350 square meters. Two settlements of Spatari and Metokhi, residential buildings, a religious building, outbuildings, a granary, and other structures were saved.
