Over the next two months, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine should draft a bill on dual citizenship, which will help prevent citizens of other countries from running the state, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov said.

“The issue of dual citizenship is extremely important for our state. As you know, we are moving towards civilized states that allow dual citizenship. But for our country there are certain challenges, which are associated with the fact that, at one time, the Russian Federation used this tool […] When the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Minister of Defense, the head of the General Staff were citizens of the Russian Federation. We cannot allow this in the future. We also have certain challenges in other countries. And today we made a decision that within two months, the Cabinet of Ministers must propose a bill that will allow us to clearly understand […] those persons who have dual citizenship,” Danilov said during a briefing on Feb. 26.
