  • IKEA announced that it would open a store in Kyiv in 2019. The Swedish homeware retailer will open a store in a new Ocean Mall which soon will rise not far from its sister Ocean Plaza near Lybedska metro station. Urban preservationists have been protesting the construction as it may destroy Kyiv’s iconic Soviet-era “Spaceship” building.
  • Russian Supreme Court rejected an appeal of Roman Sushchenko, a Ukrainian journalist sentenced to 12 years for espionage. His former lawyer Mark Feygin, who had been stripped of his attorney’s license by the Moscow Bar Association, said Sushchenko continues to deny any wrongdoing but is ready to ask for pardon.
  • U.S. special envoy for Ukraine negotiations Kurt Volker visits Kyiv this week. He will speak at the Yalta European Strategy meeting.
  • Corruption and fears of not getting a fair hearing in court are the main reasons blocking foreign investment into Ukraine, according to the latest investor survey by Dragon Capital, EBA, and Center for Economic Strategy.
