National News

  • An Odesa court has confirmed Odesa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov has Russian citizenship, which he had repeatedly denied. The revelation exposes Trukhanov and SBU officials to additional criminal charges. The confirmation took place at a hearing related to an ongoing embezzlement case, in which Trukhanov is a suspect.
  • CEO Zurab Alasania’s termination from the Suspile Telebachennya TV station was postponed until May 6, from Feb. 19, according to the TV station’s supervisory board. The board’s sudden decision two weeks ago to fire Alasania drew accusations that the broadcaster was fired for insufficient coverage of president Petro Poroshenko.
  • Business news site Delo.ua lost eleven journalists, including its chief editor, who resigned after the publication was acquired by a controversial businessman. New owner Konstyantyn Parshyn had been convicted of embezzlement in 2011, though the conviction was later annulled. Delo.ua staff said they were shocked by their new boss’s identity.
  • Comedic actor Volodymyr Zelenskiy has increased his lead in the presidential polls, with a projected 28 percent of the vote. Poroshenko improved his second place position with 18 percent, while Tymoshenko has slid to third place with 15 percent.

  • A quarter of Donbas refugees suffer from depression or anxiety, revealed a new study of 2,000 internally displaced Ukrainians. Most Ukrainians are hesitant to seek medical help for their mental health issues.

Business and Technology News

  • The former head of Mriya Agro Holding has dodged a corruption case, as the Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s Office found “no criminal wrongdoing.” The vertically integrated agribusiness recently underwent debt restructuring, followed by an acquisition by a Saudi Arabian firm.
  • Ukrainian Prime Minister Groysman accused Naftogaz of failing to meet a gas quota. The company’s 20 to 20 plan called for production to increase to 20.1 billion cubic meters by 2020.
  • Ukraine made no progress in the fight against corruption, according to a statement by the International Monetary Fund.
  • Mandarin Plaza is looking to acquire Ocean Plaza shopping center from Russia’s TPS Real Estate.
