Here’s the latest news from the Kyiv Post:

  • Acting SBU chief Bakanov’s wife has Russian citizenship. This is not the first time a key intelligence officer is revealed to have family members holding Russian citizenship. The previous scandal centered around Serhiy Semochko, first deputy head of Foreign Intelligence Service, fired in mid-April.
  • Kyiv not Kiev. US changing the spelling of Ukraine’s capital. Ukraine’s quest for proper spelling continues, with the United States Board on Geographic Names being the most recent institution choosing the Ukrainian transliteration of Ukrainian names, over Russian.
  • Saakashvili’s party announces candidates for parliament. Former President of Georgia who recently returned to Ukraine and said he’s not looking for office, now leads the Movement of New Forces party in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
  • Vox Populi: Will you vote at snap parliamentary elections? The Kyiv Post held its weekly Vox Populi on the streets of Kyiv, asking pedestrians will they vote in the upcoming snap parliamentary elections, scheduled for July 21.
