Top political leaders speak

President Volodymyr Zelensky has marked his first 100 days in office by giving a big interview— but not to a journalist. Instead, he spoke with actor Stanislav Boklan, who played Ukraine’s prime minister on the television series “Servant of the People,” where Zelensky played the president. (Unlike Zelensky, Boklan has not won the office he held on TV). In the interview, Zelensky discussed his calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukraine’s controversial language law, and burdensome utilities prices in the country.

Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk has also spoken: just days after being appointed, he gave an interviewto six Ukrainian-language media, outlining his plans and goals on a variety of issues ranging from economic growth and medical reform to why controversial Interior Minister Arsen Avakov got to keep his post in the new government.

Other news

Sept. 1 marks the first day of school in Ukraine. While many schools delayed the ceremony because that date fell on a Sunday, the Ivan Bohun Kyiv Military Lyceum stuck to tradition. It had a particular reason to celebrate: this year, for the first time in its 27-year history, it will accept girls. See the photos of the ceremony.

Ukrainian Fashion Week is back, with the country’s top fashion designers and clothing brands showing off their latest looks. Check out our photos from the event.
