The Shevchenkivsky District Court of Kyiv at a meeting on Oct. 31 chose a preventive measure for the driver suspected of having committed a traffic accident on the Khreshhatyk Street in Kyiv on Oct. 30, which killed two people.

The court has ordered to place the 66-year-old suspect under 24-hour house arrest, the press service of Kyiv city prosecutor’s office reported.

“The prosecutor at the hearing requested the detention of the suspect. In this regard, the decision on a possible appeal against the preventive measure will be made after reading the full test of the court ruling,” the message says.

The actions of the suspect are qualified under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by a person driving a vehicle, resulting in the death of several persons.

As reported earlier in the media, the suspect arrived at the court in an ambulance car and was present in the courtroom sitting in a gurney.

At about 4 p.m. on Oct. 30, the metropolitan police on the 102 special line received information about a fatal road accident on Khreschatyk Street.
