The number of officially confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ukraine has reached 47,677 as of 9 a.m. on July 4.

In the past 24 hours, health authorities confirmed 914 new cases of COVID-19. During this same period, 196 people were hospitalized. 

Fifteen people died, bringing the total death toll in the country to 1,227 since the beginning of the pandemic. Additionally, 597 patients have recovered, the second largest daily figure since the start of the pandemic in Ukraine, bringing the total number of recoveries to 21,155.

The regions with the highest numbers of newly registered cases are Lviv Oblast (176), Kyiv (118) and Volyn Oblast (92).

A total of 11,825 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were administered across the country during the past 24 hours. In addition, Ukrainian laboratories carried out 17,911 antibody tests (ELISA).

During his morning briefing on July 4, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said that in those Ukrainian regions where more people were diagnosed with COVID-19 — like Volyn, Zakarpattia and Rivne Oblasts — authorities had already started to prepare additional hospitals due to the “significant growth of patients with coronavirus disease.”

A day earlier, Stepanov also said that vaccination against diseases in Ukraine had fallen by 20 to 40% during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to last year. Stepanov urged Ukrainians to vaccinate themselves in order to create “collective immunity.”
