You're reading: COVID-19 in Ukraine: 876 new cases, 1,212 dead, 46,763 infected

The number of officially confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ukraine has reached 46,763 as of 9 a.m. on July 3.

In the past 24 hours, health authorities confirmed 876 new cases of COVID-19. During this same period, 229 people were hospitalized.

Twenty-seven people died, bringing the total death toll in the country to 1,212 since the beginning of the pandemic. Additionally, 505 patients recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 20,558.

The regions with the highest numbers of newly registered cases are Lviv Oblast (153), Kyiv (105) and Zakarpattia Oblast (80).

Ukraine’s daily COVID-19 cases, deaths and recoveries from May 1 to July 2, 2020. All data were released by the Ministry of Health.

A total of 13,162 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were administered across the country during the past 24 hours. In addition, Ukrainian laboratories carried out 13,167 antibody tests (ELISA).

During the previous week, Ukraine regularly registered record numbers of new cases, around 1,000 a day. Those numbers fell precipitously during the three-day weekend for Constitution Day, as fewer PCR tests were conducted — a sign that this did not necessarily represent a true decrease in cases.

The figures on July 1-3 have been higher than over the weekend, but lower than during the previous week. Because of higher numbers of PCR tests, they likely represent a more reliable decrease in new cases compared to last week.

During his morning briefing on July 3, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said that vaccination against diseases in Ukraine had fallen by 20 to 40% during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to last year. Stepanov urged Ukrainians to vaccinate themselves in order to create “collective immunity.”
