The number of officially confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ukraine has reached 32,476 as of 9 a.m. on June 16, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said at a morning press briefing.
In the past 24 hours, Ukraine has recorded 666 new cases. Eleven people have died, bringing the total death toll of COVID-19 in the country up to 912. Additionally, 275 patients have recovered, bringing country’s total number of recoveries to 14,528. Over the past 24 hours, 172 people have been hospitalized.
Among the new COVID-19 cases, 52 are children and 63 are medical workers. A total of 4,402 children and 5,600 medical workers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Ukraine.
After a rapid rise in the number of new infections during the past week, the numbers started to decrease slightly on June 13. They are now increasing slightly.
“We all confused the easing of quarantine with the cancellation of all restrictions,” Stepanov said during the press conference, after he was asked why Ukraine is witnessing a rise in new COVID-19 cases.
“(People) are neglecting all recommendations of the health ministry,” he added.
During his morning briefing on June 16, Stepanov said that Ukraine had performed 16,476 COVID-19 tests in the past 24 hours, notably less than the 18,247 tests conducted on June 12 and the 20,173 tests reported on June 1.
The most recent figure includes 9,376 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests and 7,097 antibody tests (IFA).
Since June 1, the Ukrainian government has begun to rapidly reopen the country’s economy. On June 15, Ukraine reopened its borders and relaunched international passenger air travel.
