As of April 27, the largest number of coronavirus cases in Ukraine has been registered in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast (1,790 cases), Chernivtsi Oblast (1,375 cases), Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast (761 cases), Ternopil Oblast (612 cases) and Rivne Oblast (522 cases).

Zakarpattia and Kharkiv oblasts also had the largest number of cases registered in one day, 46 and 49, respectively.

In the past 24 hours, Ukrainian laboratories have administered 4,251 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests. In total, 93,519 samples have been tested since the beginning of the outbreak. The actual number of people tested has not been disclosed.

Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said the goal is to increase the number of tests to at least 8,000 per day.

“For that, we are strengthening the capacity of laboratories and training lab assistants,” he said at the briefing on April 27.

In addition, he said that regional laboratories had received some 4,500 Ukraine-made PCR test systems, which is sufficient for testing 450,000 samples.

Stepanov also said that the health ministry had adjusted the rules governing mandatory quarantine for people returning from abroad. Today, they have a choice to self-isolate at home for 14 days, but have to download a mobile tracking application. Otherwise, they can stay under observation in one of the sites designated by the government.
