The number of officially confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ukraine has reached 418 as of early March 29, according to the health ministry, with the number of deaths rising to 9 people.
The number of recovered patients stands at five people.
The laboratories have confirmed 109 new cases within 24 hours.
The past week marked a rapid growth in the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ukraine. The country started the week on March 22 with just 73 confirmed cases, adding 345 cases in seven days.
Out of Ukraine’s 24 oblasts, only the southern Mykolaiv Oblast doesn’t have any cases of COVID-19. Cases of the coronavirus were initially reported there but later the patients were re-registered in Kyiv Oblast.
COVID-19, a disease caused by the novel coronavirus, has killed at least 30,894 deaths globally as of the morning of March 29, and infected 664,941 people; 142,449 patients have recovered. The United States, Italy, China, and Spain are struggling the most to curb the spread of the disease. The virus is believed to have originated in China in December.
Ukraine’s capital Kyiv has claimed the place with the fastest coronavirus spread in the country. 82 people have caught an infection as of March 29, eight more than a day ago.
“Four women aged from 20 to 40 got infected and also an 11-year-old girl. Also, three men from 33 to 40 years old,” Klitschko said on his Facebook page.
“Among them a doctor of a private clinic, who examined the patient who had returned from abroad,” said Klitschko. Previously, 21 medical professionals were reported to be infected in Ternopil Oblast.
However, two people have recovered in Kyiv, the city mayor Vitali Klitschko.
“Some positive news – two Kyiv residents, who were diagnosed with COVID-19 disease, have recovered. They have been released from Oleksandrivsky hospital,” Klitschko said on his Facebook page.
Kyiv Oblast has another 45 cases of coronavirus infection recorded. Neighboring Cherkasy Oblast has 46 cases.
Apart from central Ukraine, the western part of the country is also experiencing an outbreak of the virus. Three neighboring oblasts there have 157 cases in total. 59 people got infected in Chernivtsi Oblast, five patients have recovered and one died. Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast has 41 cases recorded, three of them lethal.
One person died in Ternopil Oblast and 57 other people got infected, which includes 21 medical professionals. All of the medics were infected in the same district of Ternopil Oblast. They include seven doctors, eight nurses, and six junior nurses.
On March 26, the Kyiv Post reported that four doctors got infected in the district due to the lack of safety equipment.
