You're reading: Court extends arrest of ex-military threatened to blow up Kyiv’s Metro Bridge

Dniprovsky district court in Kyiv has extended a preventive measure to former military officer Oleksiy Belko, who threatened to blow up the Kyiv’s Metro (Most) Bridge.

“Dniprovsky district court took a respective decision at the today’s sitting. The suspect is under arrest by January 12, 2020,” a press service of Kyiv prosecutor’s office reported on November 13.

As reported, on September 18, Belko stopped in his car on the Kyiv Metro Bridge and began to threaten to blow up the bridge. He did not voice clear demands.

For almost four hours, a special detention operation was carried out. As a result, the attacker managed to be detained without the use of weapons.

Oleksiy Belko is a native of the Foros, Crimea. He participated in the ATO in eastern Ukraine and attained the rank of senior sergeant. Belko served as the head of the radio station of the radio center of the field communications center of military unit A 3628, located in Brovary, Kyiv region. He was taken into custody by police.

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that the detainee was under the influence of drugs. Avakov said he would ask the court to release Belko on bail and for minimum punishment.
